Fire Hose Types

 

We categorize fire hoses reels on the basis of length and diameter and the pressure rating of the hoses. 

The types of fire hoses are as following:

 

 

(1) Delivery Hose:

 

The delivery hose is attached to the discharge side of the pump. Delivery hoses are further categorized into the following types. This is connected to the discharge side of the pump. This is subjected to a pressure greater than the atmospheric pressure.

 (1.1) Canvas Hose:

 

Canvas hose is used with pumps and fire vehicles for supplying water or foam for fighting the fire. They are commonly used in mining industries, navigation, and transportation. They are made from synthetic fiber and lined with rubber for enhancing flexibility and durability. Canvas hoses are easy to use, lightweight, and require less maintenance.

 

 

(1.2) Non-Percolating Hose: 

 

It is a type of delivery hose and it consists of a jacket made from nylon or polyester. The inner lining is of rubber material fixed with a jacket by an adhesive that enhances its durability, flexibility. It is nonporous and does not allow seepage of water.

 

 

(1.3) Controlled Percolating Hose: 

 

A controlled percolating hose ensures the continuous flow of fluid from the jacket in a controlled manner so that the pressure that is built up inside the hose is retained. This makes them useful in firefighting operations, as there is a possibility of contact with the flames. 

 

 

(2) Fire Suction Hose:

 

It is a special type of fire hose that is used for drawing water from portable firefighting vehicles or the main water source. This hose plays a vital role in drawing water from a portable water tank, pool, or other water sources. Fire engine it as a vacuum for drawing water. These hoses are connected to the output side of the pump.

 

 

(3) Hose Reel Hose: 

 

These are made of reinforced rubber fitted with a swiveling joint bound over a reel. A squeeze nozzle is provided at one end.

  • Store it in a cool dry and well-ventilated place.
  • All the Hoses should be cleaned and dried periodically.
  • Rubber lined hoses should be cleaned by passing water through them and dried on towers, periodically. These should not be exposed to hot dry air or sun rays for long periods.
  • Hoses should be stored in long folds or figure-eight positions.
  • The folds should be changed periodically.
  • The cabinet is mounted at a specific height.
  • The valves are properly cleaned.
