Fire Alarm System For Hospital

Hospitals play an integral part in the health of the population of every society. The function of the hospital is to diagnose the equipped for the diagnosis of diseases and the treatment. Hospital is one of the rushy and busiest places having thousands of visitors and doctors, nurses, and medical staff.
It is one of the most important social buildings of a community. So the protection and security of the hospital are critical. Hospital is equipped with many complex and electrical machines, chemicals, and drugs, so all these things pose a serious threat and challenge.
The administration of the hospital should take every possible step to make sure its rightful protection from disasters and damages. Hospital is a kind of social building where most of the visitors or patients are not able to walk on their own. Many activities cannot be interrupted even if there are fire emergencies or terror threats.
The most important step that the administration can take is to have the best quality fire alarm system. Installing a fire alarm system in the hospital will give peace of mind to the patient and also ensure the security of the doctors, nurses, and medical staff.
The fire alarm system is an efficient and intelligent device that can detect and respond to different kinds of emergencies.
Fire Alarm systems for the hospitals must be designed for quick and accurate detection. The Fire Alarm system is a planned response between the fire department and hospital staff so the designer must keep in mind the complexity of the task.
Before installing the fire alarm system in the hospital, it is essential to have some knowledge about the type of fire alarm system and its important parts.
In today’s blog, I will explain all the important points related to the fire alarm system to enhance your understanding of the fire alarm system.

Types of Fire Alarm System

Fire Alarm systems are of two types.

Conventional Fire Alarm System:

A conventional Fire alarm system consists of one or more circuits that are connected to the sensors in parallel. When there is fire these sensors decrease the resistance of the circuits. The conventional fire alarm system is made up of zones. The zone is made up of initiating (sensors) and notification devices. Each zone is connected to the main control panel. The current in the circuit increases when the sensor detects the fire in the surrounding. This increase in current communicates the change to the control panel.

Addressable Fire Alarm System:

Addressable Fire Alarm System has detectors connected in series to the control panel. These fire alarms are more advance. An addressable fire alarm system is installed in the more complex premises. It is easy for this type of fire alarm to trigger a fire. In an addressable fire alarm system, each detector has a unique address that enables it to detect the fire.

Important Consideration for Fire Alarm System Installation:

Accurate and faultless installation of a fire alarm system is very essential for the proper working of the fire alarm system otherwise having a fire alarm system is only a wastage of money and time nothing more than that.

Zones:

Accurate and proper zoning of the fire alarm system in a healthcare facility is crucial. The zoning helps in determining where the emergency arises in the building. It also helps in determining the fire origins.
When the alarm system is installed in the hospital and other health care facilities it is suggested to connect the fire alarm zones with the smoke compartments. Because NFPA 99 indicates that all the smoke detectors and alarm zones should be integrated. These smoke compartments are designed to build provisional refuge areas for patients or residents in health care units.

Notification Devices:

Notification devices are those devices that are used to alert people about emergencies. In older times only audio notification devices were used but now visual devices are also introduced to improve efficiency.

A Fire Alarm System that is more advanced has a powerful speaker that delivers both emergency communication and live messages. The message that it gives will allow the staff to handle the situation effectively without causing any panic. The message will give information about the floor, wing, and code of the building where fire disaster happens.
Some fire alarm system comes with some speakers that send message notifications. The speakers automatically deliver a message regarding weather, terrorist threats, or other incidents where you need to communicate with all the occupants of a building.

Corridors and Hallways:

According to the rule, health care facilities must install a smoke detector and automatic sprinkler systems in every corridor of the hospital. For some specific areas such as waiting areas, stretcher storage areas, some smoke detectors are also needed . Smoke detectors are also needed for nursing rooms and sleeping areas.
The above-mentioned information clears all the misunderstandings about the fire alarm system and its installation.
